This section
of my portfolio is designed to show the 'tracks' I have made as
a professional, in the areas of research and education.
For more than
20 years I have worked as an educator in Australia, Zambia and Kuwait.
My experience has been mainly with secondary age students (12-18)
but I also have taught younger school students and lectured at University
level to adults.
My initial subject area is music,
in which I have a Master of Arts in jazz related research. As well
as jazz-based curriculum I have developed educational approaches
to the integration of music
technology into the curriculum.
Over the past decade I have focussed more on the emerging needs
of technology within education and have completed study at the University
of Melbourne to become a qualified ICT teacher. Currently I am completing
another Masters degree at the George Washington University in Educational
Technology Leadership.
Having come
from an Arts background originally I am interested in the 'human'
side of computers and the de-alienation of technology in everyday
life. I am also interested in how telecommunications and computers
themselves can be used as a medium for communication and creativity
as well as to create wider understanding of local and global issues.
I would like to be able to develop solutions for educators and work
with management teams in a school to develop programs that give
educators confidence and improve the learning outcomes of students.
Over the past decade I have developed strategies in educational
technology and had the opportunity to present ideas and discoveries
at conferences and professional development sessions for staff.
More recently
my family and I have had the opportunity to work and teach in other
countries. My persepective on the realities, requirements and challenges
of being an international educator have been developed through employment
in British curriculum schools in Zambia and Kuwait.
